You may be wondering if you are a good
candidate for breast enlargement surgery. Just having
smaller breasts than you would like to have is not enough to
ascertain you would make a good candidate for breast augmentation.
Although only a consultation and examination by a qualified
plastic surgeon can truly determine if breast augmentation may be
right for you, below is a checklist to help you understand the
requirements.
Requirements
- You must be 18 years of age or older.
Although some surgeons have implanted breast implants in those
who are younger, this practice is controversial and not
recommended.
- You must be in good physical and mental
health. These are very important requirements and you should be
very honest with your surgeon.
- You must not be taking any medications
which would inhibit wound healing or increase the dangers of
anesthesia, and the surgery itself.
- You must not be pregnant or currently
nursing.
- You should be wanting breast implants
surgery for yourself, and no one else.
- You should have realistic expectations
about what can be achieved.
- You must be willing to accept the
inherent risks of breast implant surgery. Please see our
Breast Augmentation
Risks section.
- You must be willing to accept that breast
implants do not last a lifetime and will more than likely need
to be replaced.
- You should be in a financial position to
possibly pay for additional expenses if complications arise.
- You must be willing to abide by your
surgeon's post-operative instructions and attend your follow-up
appointments to increase your chances of a positive outcome.
Reasons You May Be Interested In Breast Augmentation:
- You may wish to have larger breasts to
balance your overall figure.
- If you have asymmetry of the breasts,
breast implants can help create balance by correcting the
difference in size.
- You may wish to look better in clothing.
- You may wish to restore breast volume
after considerable weightless, pregnancy and breastfeeding, or
volume loss due to natural aging.
- You may be seeking breast augmentation
for reconstructive purposes due to cancer.
- To increase your overall self-esteem and
feel that breast augmentation may allow you to feel more
feminine.

What
Real Patients Have To Say...
"I am
really glad my surgeon made me get a physical. I was upset at
the extra cost at first but I had some minor health issues that came
up. Although I had to put my surgery off until later, I am
better off because of it. I would hate to think something could
have happened. I have 2 children and they need their mommy. Now
I am healthier than before and happier because of my new breasts!"
~Cindy
"Be
sure that you tell your surgeon about all of your medications, even
aspirin. You never know how it will affect you during your
surgery or after. I followed my surgeon's instructions to a T
and knew that this surgery was right for me. I know my desire
for a bigger bustline could have clouded my judgment but everything
was fine and my doctor said I was a great candidate for breast implants..." ~TH
